Soccer teams play first home matches

The Hart County boys soccer team remains undefeated while the girls team is still looking for its first win. Both teams travelled to Banks County High School on Feb. 4. The boys beat the Leopards 12-3. Luis Genchi scored four goals in the blow out. Kyle Hubbard also scored a hat trick.

Six Mat Dogs set for state

After the sectionals meet this past weekend, six Mat Dogs punched their ticket to the Georgia Traditional State Tournament.

Lady Dogs move into first place

The Lady Dogs added two more wins in the home stretch of region play. The Hart County girls basketball team beat Stephens County, 63-42 at home on Friday, Feb. 4. The Dogs got off to a quick start and scored 20 points in the first quarter.

HCHS grad named Virginia Tech football equipment manager

Stewart Carter, 1989 graduate of Hart County High School, was named Virginia Tech’s new director of football equipment. Carter said his career in equipment management grew from wanting to continue to be around football after his high school days.

Two new chain restaurants are looking to build locations on a vacant lot in Hartwell. At a Jan. 27 meeting, the Hartwell Planning and Zoning board recommended the rezoning of a 1.9-acre lot on East Franklin Street for the proposed placement of a Dunkin’ and a Firehouse Subs.
