We all need some patience

For the last few days I’ve been running into a couple of words over and over.  One of them is patience. We all know that lack of patience can result in difficult, even bad, situations. There are lots of people in Hartwell nowadays without patience.

Legislative wrap up: week 2

To kick off the state budget process [last week], the House and Senate Appropriations committees held a series of joint budget hearings. Governor Kemp gave opening remarks and presented his formal budget recommendations for the current and upcoming fiscal year budgets.

Hart Ag Center hosts Cattle Show: HCHS students take top honors

On Jan. 29, the second Hart County FFA Alumni “Bulldog Showdown” Steer and Heifer Show took place at the Hart County Agriscience Center in Hartwell with several Hart County students placing in top spots against their competitors.
In addition to his academic prowess, McDowell is also first bass and captain of the Hart County Marching Band.

Ethan McDowell named HCHS STAR student

Ethan McDowell, captain of the marching band and the recipient of a 1450 on his SAT — the highest among his peers at Hart County High School —  has been named STAR student.

Lake Hartwell to host Bassmaster Classic in March

Lake Hartwell is scheduled to host the 2022 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic for the fourth time later this year. The tournament is scheduled for March 4-6. Takeoffs will be from Green Pond Landing and Event Center in Anderson, S.C.

YMCA welcomes new sports director

The new sports director at the Bell Family YMCA is looking to further improve its soccer program, as well as start programs for several other sports. Sports director Kerv Augustin was born in France and then spent most of his early childhood living abroad because of his dad’s job with the U.S.

Lady Dogs split region games

The Hart County High School girls basketball team split two region games on the road over the past week. On Wednesday, Jan. 19, the Lady Dogs traveled to Toccoa and beat the Stephens County Indians 45-30.

Bulldogs remain on top of region

The Bulldogs winning streak continued as the Hart County boys basketball team downed two more region opponents this week. The Bulldogs battled to beat Stephens County High School on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 19 to win 64-59.
