HCHS Baseball hosts second biggest camp in history

The Hart County High School baseball team concluded their final day of their annual summer fundamental baseball camp today at Saye Field.

HCHS softball teaches fundamentals at annual summer camp

The Hart County softball team hosted their annual Lady Bulldog softball camp on June 5-6, teaching campers fundamentals and to also have fun. All of the current high school softball coaches and players were in attendance as they helped run the camp for the 30-plus campers in attendance.
Mattie Weathers won the hot-shot competition for her age group and was also named camper of the week.

Basketball camp sets record for attendance

The Hart County High School basketball teams hosted a record number of campers at their annual summer basketball camp for kids going into Pre-K, all the way up to rising eighth graders on May 30 - June 1.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   May 29   Jeremy Rowland, 41, of Hartwell was arrested and charged with financial transaction card fraud. Shameka Cooper, 39, of Hartwell was arrested and charged with DUI and speeding.

Looking to dance on the depot again

When it comes to events in Hartwell, I am loyal to a fault and a traditionalist.  My father and I have attended Cars & Guitars religiously over the years, while my mother and I typically take a quick lap around the Pre-4th Extravaganza annually.
The Hartwell City Council moved to re-zone the old Bell’s Shopping Center, now home to Ace Hardware, from heavy industry (M-2) to general business (B-2). The council approved this with the condition that any future development on the property will be placed, at least, 50 feet back from Athens Street.

Former Bell’s Shopping Center starts ‘first of many rezones’

The old Bell’s Shopping Center located at the corner of Athens and Howell Streets was approved for re-zoning by the Hartwell City Council. This move came during the City Council’s regular June meeting on June 5, where Mayor Brandon Johnson said, “this is just one of the first of many re-zones.

City approves paying off 15-year-old loan for utility upgrades

The City of Hartwell could soon be able to host a mortgage burning party, in a manner of speaking. City Manager Jon Herschell asked the Hartwell City Council to retire an old debt during their meeting on June 5 in City Hall. “This loan was lumped in with a lot of different things,” Herschell said.

Bridge construction on Royston Highway, over Beaverdam Creek, is continuing to cause headaches for travelers between Hart and Franklin Counties.
