Hart County Football has filled its “to be announced” game Sept. 15 with a trip to Lumpkin County.

Two weeks ago, The Hartwell Sun reported that Hart County had an open slot in their schedule due to St. Francis not having enough players. That led to them backing out of their originally scheduled game against the Dogs.

On Aug. 14, Lumpkin County, a Region 7-AAA school out of Dahlonega, announced that their game on Aug. 18 against Riverside Military Academy had been cancelled and were looking to fill a game on one of their bye weeks, with one being on Sept. 15.

It did not take long for Dogs head coach and HCHS Athletic Director Cory Dickerson to make the call over to Lumpkin County about a potential match up. On Aug. 15, the team announced that it will take the trip to Dahlonega to face the Indians for the first time in program history on Sept. 15.

“We were excited to find a team like Lumpkin County,” Dickerson said. “They are a really good football team. We have seen them at some camps over the past couple of years. I know they had a really good season last year and I know they have a lot of guys coming back. We are excited about the match up, and it is pretty close proximity to us. So it’s not necessarily too far of a drive and I thought it was a really good option with them being the same size of us. I’m excited that it all worked out.”
