Cateechee hosts first annual Pickleball Tournament

The Cateechee Classic in memory of Charly and Kelli Schell was held on June 9-11 at the new Pickleball facility at Cateechee Golf Club. Over 150 players registered to play in singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Rough waters leads to lower numbers for the Hartwell Bass Club

The Hartwell Bass Club competed on Lake Russell on Saturday, June 10 and fought against the rough waters. Johnny Adams placed first with 7.92 pounds. Adams and Curtis Brown was the first place boat with 10.70 pounds. Robert Hendrix placed second with 6.50 pounds, Brian Pitts placed third with 6.

Little League rookie softball team finishes fourth in the state

The Hart County Little League rookie softball team advanced to the state championship on June 16-17 in Warner Robins, but unfortunately dropped both games, and finishing fourth in the state. The team lost to Warner Robins on Friday and Jones County on Saturday afternoon.

YMCA teaches fundamentals during week one of soccer camps

The Bell Family YMCA kicked off their month of soccer with a fundamentals camp on June 12-16. Bell Family YMCA’s sports director Kerv Augustin, current and former Hart County soccer players, and coaches from around the area teamed up to teach kids the importance of the fundamentals of soccer.

Hart County man indicted for elder exploitation

Attorney General Chris Carr announced June 14 that Lawrence Montgomery, Jr. has been indicted on one count of felony Exploitation of an Elder Person in Hart County. The defendant was the personal representative for an elderly relative who lived in a nursing facility.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   June 13   Trinity Cody, 20, of Lavonia was arrested and charged with probation violation - DUI. Zachary Koehn, 23, of Carnesville was arrested and charged with probation violation - child molestation.

The Hart County Charter System (HCCS) is taking steps to make sure kids do not go hungry during summer break. “The HCCS summer feeding program is providing meals free-of-charge to any children ages 18 and under,” said  Community Relations Director Grayson Williams.
