Commissioners approve SPLOST allocations

The Hart County Board of Commissioners (BOC) came to an agreement Tuesday to allocated 17.3 percent of SPLOST VI dollars to the City of Hartwell, with any overage being divided by the same percent with a six-year agreement.

HCHS Football to host youth camp Friday

The Hart County High School Football team will host its annual youth football camp on Friday, July 21 from 9 a.m. till noon for grades kindergarten to sixth grade.

Softball position breakdown: pitchers

It’s time for a softball position group breakdown. The Hartwell Sun will be breaking down each position group on the 2023 Hart County High School softball team leading up to the first pitch on August 5. We start with a group who will have four new faces on the  mound, and that is the pitchers.

It’s time for another position breakdown. The Hartwell Sun will be breaking down each position group on the 2023 Hart County High School football team leading up to kickoff versus Elbert County. This week continues with a group who will return both starters — that is the tight ends.

Rucker nominated for Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

CHAPEL HILL — University of North Carolina senior defender Kaimon Rucker has been nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Rucker’s combination of athletic prowess and dedication to the community make him the ideal candidate to be selected for this prestigious honor.

YMCA basketball camp puts the fun in fundamentals

The Bell Family YMCA hosted its annual basketball camp where they brought in coaches to help teach kids the fundamentals of basketball on June 10-14.

Less than a month away from fall sports

As the summer comes to a close and school is coming quickly, fall sports are just around the corner. The football, softball, cross country, and volleyball teams at Hart County High School (HCHS) have been working hard over the summer to prepare for the 2023 season.

Emmanuel College makes change to University

Emmanuel College is now Emmanuel University. The name-change was effective Monday, a press release from the school said. “We are excited about the opportunities this name gives us to develop graduate programs and improve recruiting efforts,” said newly appointed President the Rev. Greg Hearn.

Hart EMC to hold 86th annual meeting tonight

Hart EMC’s 86th annual meeting will be held Thursday, July 20 at the Hart County High School Gym. The annual meeting is a meeting of Hart EMC’s members and a special occasion for members to participate in cooperative business and meet their cooperative leaders and employees.
Southern Hart Brewery hosted an event to help raise $7,800 for the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter. Donations made by individuals and businesses, coupled with the fundraiser have been held with hopes of additional funds to continue. Donations, fundraiser help raise money for animal shelter

During the Hart County Board of Commissioners (BOC) meeting on Tuesday, July 27, it came to light that the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter (NEGAS) was struggling to maintain operations due to a deficit of nearly $8,000 caused by rising costs.
