Cemetery investigation ongoing

The Georgia Secretary of State’s Securities Division is investigating a number of complaints made by Hart County citizens, and reported by The Hartwell Sun in March, regarding the condition of Nancy Hart Memorial Gardens.

Heaton to compete in Bassmaster National Championship for Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS – Next week, Aug. 7-12,  five Emmanuel Bass teams will be fishing the BASSMASTER College National Championship on Pickwick Lake in Counce, Tn. These anglers have worked hard this year to qualify for this prestigious event.

Softball drops opener

After a competitive two innings of play, Jackson County’s offense produced a six run inning in the third and a three run inning in the sixth to run rule the Lady Dogs in six innings, 10-1. The Lady Dogs opened up their season with a road trip to Jackson County to take on the Lady Panthers.
Senior Hart County High School competition cheerleader McKinley Ivester made the top 16 for cheerleader of the year, and also earned a spot on the All-State Cheerleading Team for Class A through AAAA. She also earned a scholarship for making the top 16.

Ivester makes Class A-AAAA All-State Cheer Team

Two Hart County High School competition cheerleaders competed in the 2023 Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association (GCCA) cheerleader of the year competition on Aug. 5 at Columbus State University, and one Lady Dog made the Class A-AAAA All-State Team.

Rucker makes the Wuerffel Trophy watch list

CHAPEL HILL, N.C – North Carolina senior Kaimon Rucker was named to the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy watch list, the award’s committee announced Thursday August 3.

Lady Dogs sweep Habersham in season opener

The Volley Dogs started the season off with a sweep on the road versus Habersham Central on Aug. 8. The Volley Dogs were able to sweep the Raiders of Habersham Central in three sets by the scores of 25-14, 28-26, and 25-22.
Douglas Cordell Barnes, 36, of Cleveland, has not been seen or heard from since Saturday, July 19. His truck was located on Ga. 77 in Hart  County.

Law enforcement still searching for missing White County man

Police are searching for a White County man who has been missing for over 20 days. Douglas Cordell Barnes, 36, of Cleveland has not been seen or heard from since Saturday, July 19. Barnes was reported missing to the White County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, July 28.
