Free/Reduced Meal Applications Open, Breakfast to be Free 2023-2024 School Year July 17, 2023 Free and Reduced Meal Applications for the Hart County Charter System are now available online for the 2023-2024 school year. New applications must be submitted each year.

Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame presents $8,000 in scholarships

A representative from the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame (GMVHOF) presented a certificate to Hart County High School graduates Andrew Brezeale and Kaden McLane. Each were awarded the GMVHOF scholarship worth $4,000 each.

Registration is underway for the Antique Tractor Show that will be featured at this year’s Northeast Georgia Ag Expo. The Northeast Georgia Ag Expo returns this year to the Hart County Charter System Agriscience Center on August 19. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Wastewater project brings economic progress

The City of Hartwell Wastewater Treatment Plant, originally constructed in 1965, is currently undergoing major upgrades and new construction. The project, which began in the summer of 2012, is projected to be completed by the summer of 2024.
Tyler Floyd, a 2005 Hart County High School graduate, will be the instructor for the newly created Marine Engine Technology pathway in the Hart College and Career Academy, making Hart County just the third school system in the state to offer the pathway.

Changes ahead for new school year

The Hart County Charter System (HCCS) is gearing up for another year of learning, but with each new school year comes a slurry of minor tweaks, adjustments and additions. Free and reduced meal applications for the HCCS are now available online at myschoolapps.

YMCA to host junior pickleball camp

The Bell Family YMCA will host a junior pickleball camp on July 24-28. One of the fastest growing sports globally is pickleball, and Bell Family YMCA sports director Kerv Augustin is excited to introduce a new sport to the next generation of athletes.

Twisters strike gold and silver at Nationals

The Hartwell Twisters gymnastics team went to compete at Nationals in Orlando, FL on July 1 and had eight take first place and seven taking second place in their individual events.

Two HCHS competition cheerleaders make Top 30 for Cheerleader of the Year

Rising senior cheerleaders for the Hart County High School competition cheer team, Ameila Johnson and McKinley Ivester made the Top 30 for the Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association (GCCA) Cheerleader of the Year.

Racetracks and Racers

When I was a child my father and I would sometimes go to automobile races at various dirt tracks in the area. We attended races in Toccoa, Hartwell, Lavonia and Banks County speedways in Georgia along with Anderson, Greenville-Pickens and Westminster Speedways in South Carolina.
