Boys hoops goes 1-1 on week, endures opponent cancelations

After winning the Madison County Christmas Tournament last week, the Hart County boys basketball team struggled in its first game of the McDonald’s Shootout. The Bulldogs played Madison County in the finals of the two-day tournament on Wed, Dec. 22 and won decisively 74-49.

McDonald’s Shootout next week

The 14th Annual McDonald’s Shootout will take place next week at Hart County High School. The three-day basketball tournament will kick off on Dec. 27 and games will begin at 10 a.m. and the last game will begin at 8:30 p.m. each day.

Mat Dogs feel the heat in the Inferno

The Hart County wrestling team had a hard time in the Inferno on Wednesday, Dec. 15. The first matchup was between the two visiting teams, Hart and Crescent. Hart started poorly with the first four wrestlers being pinned.

Lady Dogs struggle on road against Blue Devils

The Hart County girls basketball team lost in Elbert County on Friday, Dec. 17. Elbert started out hot making a high percentage of shots from beyond the arc, taking a 25-8 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Devils then added 10 points without allowing Hart to score, ending the half up 46-19.

Into the Inferno: Dogs win tough road game in Elberton

The Hart County boys basketball team won a close game on the road against Elbert County on Dec. 17. The Bulldogs ended up winning 53-46, but not without a heated battle to end the game. Hart started out strong, leading 18-7 by the end of the first quarter.

Shot clock coming to GHSA basketball

The shot clock, a familiar sight in college and pro basketball, is now a part of the high school game in Georgia as well. The Georgia High School Association approved a proposal to mandate the use of a 30-second shot clock for all varsity games in June 2020.

Mat Dogs add win in Stephens County

The Hart County wrestling team is now 7-6 after defeating Stephens County on Dec. 9. On Nov. 30 the Mat Dogs travelled to Carnesville and beat Franklin County (39-33) but lost to Madison County (30-39). They then went to Flowery Branch for the dual tournament, Battle at The Bluff on Dec. 4.

Middle School Mat Dogs win region tournament

The Hart County Middle School wrestling team competed in two region tournaments this weekend in Habersham. The team took first in the NEGIAA Traditional Tournament and second in the NEGIAA Team Duals, narrowly losing to Elbert County by one point.

Hoop teams fall in Rabun Gap

Both the Hart County boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Rabun Gap on Thursday, Dec. 9 to rematch Rabun Gap-Nacoochee. The Lady Dogs lost their rematch against the Eagles, 57-30. Hart kept the score within reach in the first half, trailing 32-23 at half time.

Lady Dogs fall to Devils

The Hart County High School girls hoops team came up short against Elbert County on Friday, Dec. 3. The Lady Dogs got behind early when the Devils scored seven unanswered points. Hart responded with six unanswered points of their own and ended the first period tied at nine each.
