The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   July 1   Joseph Graham, 37, of Toccoa was arrested and charged with windshields and windshield wipers, effective or no headlights, failure to drive within a single lane, and giving a false name to a law enforcement officer.

AgGeorgia Farm Credit to pay $7.8 million to membership

AgGeorgia Farm Credit is disbursing $7,828,920 to current and former borrowers of the cooperative. Members who held loans with AgGeorgia in 2016 will receive a portion of this payout, with checks expected to be mailed the first week of July.

DUI suspect charged with homicide

The allegedly-impaired driver from the River Point Community Church van crash has been charged with vehicular homicide and released on bail. Barry Thomas Clark, 64, of Hartwell was first arrested on June 29, the day of the crash at Highway 365 and Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway.

Animal shelter steak and eggs event set July 13

LAVONIA – The Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter will hold its Steak and Eggs Fundraiser July 13 at LongHorn Steakhouse in Lavonia. There will be seatings at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Cost is $20 per plate, which will include steak, eggs, biscuits, grits, orange juice, coffee and tea.

Board recommends policy changes

During its July 9 meeting, the Hart County Board of Education voted on and recommended a series of policy changes ahead of the 2024-2025 school year. The Board voted to amend its student code of conduct ahead of the first day of school on Aug. 1.
