Ossoff’s bill banning stock trading clears Senate committee

ATLANTA – Legislation U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., first introduced two years ago to prohibit members of Congress from stock trading has cleared a key hurdle. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee approved the bill Wednesday, sending it to the Senate floor.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   July 16   Eldra Gaines, 39, of Hartwell was arrested and charged with contempt of court - child support. Donna McCormick, 63, of Canon was arrested and charged with probation violation - possession of methamphetamine.

Georgia sees slight rise in unemployment

ATLANTA – Georgia’s unemployment rate rose slightly last month to 3.3%, up from 3.2% in May, the state Department of Labor reported Thursday. Commissioner of Labor Bruce Thompson said joblessness typically rises during the summer when school is out.
