Commissioners draft letter to city threatening suit

On Thursday, Dec. 29, the Hart County Board of Commissioners scheduled a called meeting for an executive session, which led to the unanimous decision by the board to formally write a letter of negotiation with the city council to “restart the process” of arbitration.

1963: After defeating the Crescent Lady Tigers of Iva, South Carolina, the Hart County Lady Dogs captured their 69th consecutive regular season win without a defeat. Wanda Reynolds led the team with 33 points with Wanda’s sister Peggy Reynolds scoring 11 points in the victory of the Lady Tigers.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   Dec. 20 •James Cleveland, 51, of Hartwell was arrested and charged with theft of services and probation violation DUI. •Dana Boles, 52, of Royston was arrested and charged with simple battery family violence.

On Thursday, Dec. 22, Hart County sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence incident involving local residents Colby Jordan and Chad Allen that escalated to Jordan shooting Allen with a deer rifle.

‘Close to Home’ exhibit to debut at Art Center

The Hartwell Art Center announced the opening of “Close to Home,” the first exhibit of the 2023 season that showcases works by local artist Ganine Giorgione Derleth. The exhibit starts Thursday, Jan. 5 with the opening reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hartwell Art Center.

Corps ends drought operations on lake

On Dec. 21, the Army Corps of Engineers issued a release stating that Lake Hartwell is no longer under drought operations due to “rain events over the Savannah River.

Hart High Schooler braves cancer: Collegiate football player dedicates win to Gaines

It was just a normal summer day for 16-year-old Ramsey Gaines, working with kids at the Bell Family YMCA in Hartwell until he felt like there was something off. “I had some issues where my right side was hurting a lot,” Gaines said.
