County receives settlement from national opioid case

The Hart County Board of Commissioners received $83,864.58 through the Janssen Settlement Agreement; a national litigation case accusing major pharmaceutical companies and drug distributors of prescribing opioids with and without the intent of addicting/poisoning its users.

The Hart County Mat Dogs took home second place in the region duals on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Oconee County and will advance to the sectionals on Saturday, Jan. 14 in Long County.
The Mat Dogs went in as the number two seed team out of five teams competing.

1940: Heaton’s Store in the Liberty Hill area, which was owned by Messer Toombs and Rufus Heaton, was totally destroyed by a fire. The building and all of its contents were lost in the blaze, which totaled $1,500. The total amount would be approximately $31,929 in 2023 currency.

Absentee ballot applications open for special election; voting schedule set

The Hart County Board of Elections is now accepting absentee applications for the March 21, 2023 Special Election, which will ask Hart County residents to continue the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) in order to help fund various school improvements throughout the county.
