Hartwell Art Center holds opening for ‘Awakenings’

Art lovers gathered May 5 at the Hartwell Art Center for the opening reception of the gallery’s newest exhibit Awakenings. As part of the art center’s 2023 exhibit season, Awakenings has drawn a diverse range of artists from around the area.

For the last two years, hundreds of students in the Hart County Charter System have prepared STEAM-based projects to share with the community at the annual STEAM Showcase.

It started as a dream. But after the April 11 Hart County Board of Commissioners meeting, Kim Herron’s dream-turned-invention was even further made into a reality. His device known as a “Gumpster” was approved by the board to be installed for use by citizens and hosted on county property.

Waters Edge Ministry to kick off second summer on Lake Hartwell

It’s almost time for the second season for Water’s Edge Ministry at Lake Hartwell. The summer season will kick off Memorial Day weekend with services held through Labor Day weekend (no service July 4 weekend). One change this year is that the service will begin at 9:30 a.m.

To help fight the effects of poverty in Hart County, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church (579 Fairview Avenue  in Hartwell) awarded grants to  five local organizations. Golden K received $1500 to aid in the construction of ramps at the homes of disabled local residents.

This Mother’s Day, The Hartwell Sun decided to highlight a mother-daughter duo within our community that has stood out over the years, and one which has bordered icon status.
The Hart County Community Theatre held a celebration for the $20,000 emergency grant on Wednesday, May 3 from the Fox Theatre Institute. Pictured from left to right is Donna McDowell (Secretary of the Hart County Community Theatre), Kay Cleveland (Board of Directors for the Hart County Community Theatre), Leigh Burns (Director of the Fox Theatre Institute), Lani Sessoms (President of the Hart County Community Theatre), and Lori Forester (Marketing Director of the Hart County Community Theatre).

Fox partnership helps fund theatre

On Wednesday, May 3, the Hart County Community Theatre received a $20,000 check from the Fox Theatre Institute that will be used to upgrade the facilities. The community gathered in the Hart County Community Theatre to attend the celebration of the continued partnership between HCCT and the Fox.
The top honor graduates for the Hart County High School Class of 2023 were recognized and honored during the Hart County Board of Education meeting. Pictured are (L-R) Superintendent Jennifer Carter, Co-Valedictorian Huong Pham, Co-Valedictorian Riley Posey, Salutatorian Thomas Floyd, Third Honor Graduate Tate Phillips, and Board of Education Chair Kim Pierce.
