Preacher achieves 50-plus year goal to obtain doctorate

Dan Bailey was called to preach 51 years ago last month. “Ever since I have been called to preach, my one ultimate goal in my ministry, apart from preaching the gospel and winning souls to Jesus, was to be able to get a Doctor of Theology degree,” he said.

Virginia men arrested after shooting incident on I-85

A pair of Virginia men were arrested in Hart County Tuesday afternoon following a BOLO alert from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for an apparent road rage shooting incident that occurred on I-85 in South Carolina.

Hartwell Art Center holds opening for ‘Awakenings’

Art lovers gathered May 5 at the Hartwell Art Center for the opening reception of the gallery’s newest exhibit Awakenings. As part of the art center’s 2023 exhibit season, Awakenings has drawn a diverse range of artists from around the area.

Second STEAM Showcase highlights student projects

For the last two years, hundreds of students in the Hart County Charter System have prepared STEAM-based projects to share with the community at the annual STEAM Showcase.

Gumpsters new option for county solid waste disposal

It started as a dream. But after the April 11 Hart County Board of Commissioners meeting, Kim Herron’s dream-turned-invention was even further made into a reality. His device known as a “Gumpster” was approved by the board to be installed for use by citizens and hosted on county property.

Waters Edge Ministry to kick off second summer on Lake Hartwell

It’s almost time for the second season for Water’s Edge Ministry at Lake Hartwell. The summer season will kick off Memorial Day weekend with services held through Labor Day weekend (no service July 4 weekend). One change this year is that the service will begin at 9:30 a.m.

St. Andrews awards grants to local organizations

To help fight the effects of poverty in Hart County, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church (579 Fairview Avenue  in Hartwell) awarded grants to  five local organizations. Golden K received $1500 to aid in the construction of ramps at the homes of disabled local residents.
