Bowersville pursuing alcohol ordinance

Bowersville could have an alcohol ordinance and a production brewery complete with a taproom in 2021, if things go as planned. The town council met in a special called meeting on Thursday, Aug. 27 to discuss what they want in an alcohol ordinance and how it might look once completed and enacted.

One of Doris Mahannah’s earliest memories is of waking up as a small child in Virginia, unable to get out of bed because of how sick she was. Her mother came and picked her up and made sure she ate and was cared for until she was nursed back to health.

COVID-19 prompted the Hart County High School versus Elbert County football game to be canceled after the Elbert County School District made the announcement Tuesday night, but Hart County won’t be without a game Friday night.

Elbert County Schools canceled the annual rivarly game between the Bulldogs and the Blue Devils that was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at The Granite Bowl. The statement posted to elbertbluedevils.

Hart County’s two-week rate of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 appears to be dropping as Georgia shed the distinction of being the state where the virus was spreading fastest, according to reports. There were 38 new cases added to the cumulative total in the past week, as of Tuesday, Aug.

Scholarship awarded to local 2020 graduate

Emilee Williams, a 2020 graduate of Hart County High School, received the Gene Higginbotham Memorial Scholarship, which will go toward her college education beginning this upcoming semester at University of Georgia. She plans to major in biology and pre-medicine.

Pollinator program expands statewide

An Atlanta-based effort to provide and restore needed habitat for butterflies, bees and other pollinators is expanding statewide. Previously known as the Greater Atlanta Pollinator Partnership, the program has broadened to become the Georgia Pollinator Partnership, or GAPP.
