The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests: Sept. 1 • Jacob Ceicle Holmes, 17, 5179 Goldmine Airline Road, Goldmine, was arrested and charged with aggravated child molestation.

Sept. 13, 1917 — Arrangements were being made for a “pathfinding  party” to leave Washington and map out the route to Atlanta. A route from Atlanta to Memphis had just been finished and was expected to be ready in two weeks.

Weekend of Hart movie times moved

The times for the Drive-In Movie Sundays put on as part of the pandemic-altered Weekend of Hart have been pushed up, but the events are still set to continue.   The start times on Sept. 27, Oct. 11 and Oct. 25 are now at 7:30 p.m to account for earlier sunsets.

4-H’ers compete at state virtually

Several weeks ago, Georgia 4-H hosted the 2020 State Achievement Series.  This virtual event was put together to combine two of their largest events and competitions, State 4-H Council and State 4-H Congress.

USDA extends free school meals

The United States Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday it is extending the summer meal program operated through local schools through Dec. 31.

Public comments vary from board to board

The public comment policy for the Hart County Board of Commissioners saw a change recently, prompting The Sun to take a look at some of the other local governments’ procedures for allowing the public to speak at open meetings. Hart County Commissioners passed 3-1 at its Aug.

City talks trees on Depot St.

The next steps were taken for two additions to Hartwell on Tuesday, Sept. 8: trees on Depot Street and a new Starbucks. At the Hartwell City Council meeting, Downtown Development Authority director Jason Ford presented a plan for the trees that were recommended for Depot Street.

County set to roll back millage rate

The millage rate in Hart County is rolling back after commissioners moved Tuesday to approve the new rate. The Hart County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 on Sept. 8 to roll back the county millage rate to 5.710. Commissioner Ricky Carter was not in attendance.
