Program could boost local tourism

Hart County is lagging behind neighboring counties in tourism spending, but acceptance into the Tourism Product Development Resource Team Program may help Hart County get ahead. Data shows that the economic impact of tourism in Hart County was $25.

Outdoor pickleball coming to YMCA thanks to fundraising effort

The Bell Family YMCA and the Lake Hartwell Pickleball Club broke ground on new outdoor pickleball courts on Monday, Aug. 24. The four courts will cover 8,160 square feet and will take over a portion of the old baseball/softball field in front of the YMCA.

Governor forms review board for Oglesby case

Governor Brian Kemp has assembled a review commission to consider whether or not to recommend a Hart County Commissioner officially be suspended from office. If suspension is recommended, commissioner R.C. Oglesby would be replaced by a Kemp appointment.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:  Aug. 18 • Tyler Harrison Maxwell, 26, 1475 Bakers Bridge Rd., Royston, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a knife.  • Loyd Paul Lewis, 57, 205 S. Webb St.

Aug. 23, 1918 A “real” potato market was coming to Hartwell for the first time.  County agent at the time John H. Warren arranged to equip a building with crates, which were considered to be better than bins because they could be carried to the field and stored in the house without being bruised.
