Mayor pushes census participation

Hartwell Mayor Brandon Johnson is urging residents to complete their census forms in order to help Hartwell grow. The current response rate for the census as of Sept. 20 for Hartwell is 60.3 percent and Hart County is 58.3 percent. Both are below the state and national response rates.

The finishing touches are going in at the Hart County Animal Rescue group’s new building as they now look for more volunteers to help out the animal sanctuary.

City asks for patience with yard debris pickup

City Manager Jon Herschell is asking for Hartwell residents’ patience with the cleanup of limbs and debris along the roads. Herschell said he has had numerous people complaining about yard debris and how long it takes to be picked up from the street.

HYDRA Fourth Fridays to bring community

Hart Youth Development Resource Association (HYDRA) is hosting a free activity for children once every month called Fourth Friday. Fourth Friday started as a kick-off event for the summer, according to HYDRA Director Mindy Wise.

Hart men release new album, a decade later

A decade after releasing their first album, former Hart County students Zeke Sayer and John Bleech are releasing their second album as The Humms on Sept. 29. The album, “Vampire Hours,” will be released on vinyl and streaming through  Sayer’s label Gypsy Farm Records.

4-H’ers win at district

A group of Hart County’s junior 4-H’ers took first place at a recent competition over other area programs. The team competed in the Georgia 4-H’s Northeast District Area Forestry Field Day Competition at the Thompson Mills Forest and State Arboretum in Braselton on Sept. 3.
