Rotary Club’s 4-Way Test contest is open

The Hartwell Rotary Club’s annual Four-Way Test contest is open for nominations. April 15 is the deadline to submit entries. The contest recognizes the Hart County person who best exemplifies the Rotary Four-Way Test. The test asks: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned?

Foundation supports area cancer patients

Cancer patients continue to face struggles during a global pandemic, but the TJ and Friends Foundation is continuing to provide financial aid to cancer patients in Hart and six other nearby counties. TJ and Friend is a nonprofit cancer foundation that provides donations of $500 to U.S.

Little japan is business of the month

Little Japan was named by the Hart County Chamber of Commerce as the business of the month for March. Owners Treena Nguyen and Tommy Vang first opened the restaurant in 2017 on Depot Street.

Sidewalk parking rules to be enforced

Folks in downtown searching for a place to park may soon notice traffic cones at the end of boxed parking zones. That’s because local officials are warning the public to avoid parking on the sidewalk and curbs in downtown Hartwell.

Murder suspect denied bond

A Hartwell woman police say murdered a man after a dispute on Palm Circle last week has been denied bond. The Hart County Magistrate Judge’s Office denied bond on Feb. 23 in an initial hearing to Brittany Traneese Stowers, age 30, of Hartwell, who was arrested on Feb. 22 and charged with murder.

March 4 1949 — Col. Pascal N. Strong, District Engineer of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers stated, “Hartwell Dam will be built,” at a Rotary Club meeting in Hartwell. He described the Savannah River as “a regular gold mine of power,” and believed the $68.

Sailboat erected in honor of family, restaurant

Frank Spenger recently commissioned a sailboat to adorn the front yard of  his home on Lightwood Road. The sailboat, which matches the public-art projects placed around Hartwell, depicts Spenger’s grandfather and his family’s former restaurant in Berkely, Calif., Spenger’s Fish Grotto.
