Fire officials are unsure what sparked a blazing house fire that ended in a total loss in the Goldmine community. Firefighters responded to the blaze at 616 Goldmine Holly Springs Rd., around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 26 and fought back flames for about eight hours.

Botanical garden hosting plant sale

The Hart County Botanical Garden’s annual Plant Sale fundraiser is back and scheduled for April 9-10 at 1277 Ga. Highway 77 South/Elberton Hwy, Hartwell. The members only pre-sale is Friday, April 9, from 2 – 7 p.m. The public sale is Saturday,  April 10, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Hart, Franklin counties move on audit

Hart and Franklin counties will be splitting the bill on a forensic audit of the airport authority after the board of commissioners for both counties met on March 25. The audit will examine the financials of the authority over a 7-year period from 2012 to 2018.

Woman crashes into house, loses service dog

Stolen church van recovered, man arrested

A stolen church van was recovered after deputies spotted the vehicle driving by in the middle of the night while they were looking at a suspicious unoccupied vehicle, that also turned out to be stolen, at Providence United Methodist Church.

Litter on Hart County roads has gotten worse throughout the pandemic, officials say. But it could get better soon when inmates at Whitworth Women’s Facility begin cleaning up the roadways again, nearly a year after the state postponed the program due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Churches hope to reconnect for Easter

After COVID restrictions prevented in-person worship services last Easter, church leaders in Hartwell are excited to “reconnect” this year. With gathering-in-place restrictions starting weeks prior to Easter last year, many churches were only able to have online services for their congregations.
