HARTWELL TWISTER SPOTLIGHT: Maddie Dault

Maddie Dault started gymnastics classes at the age of two and started competing in 2017. Her favorite event is uneven bars. Her two favorite skills are a handstand back hand-spring combination on the balance beam and a front   aerial on the floor.

Hart County Middle Schooler places at maintenance competition

Hart County Middle FFA member Conner Bentley competed in the Georgia State FFA Lawnmower Operation and Maintenance Career Development Event (CDE) at Camp John Hope in Fort Valley, Ga on Saturday March 27th.

By Josh Brannen For The Sun Emily Abiegail Baker has now made the transition from youngest elected official to youngest sworn in official as District Supervisor for Hart County. At just 21 years old she is the newest board member for the Broad River Soil and Water Conservation District.

Hartwell braces for return of Pre-Fourth

Hartwell’s biggest summer event is back this year for its 44th edition. The Pre-Fourth celebration will be on Saturday, June 26 and consist of two parts: an arts and crafts festival in the morning, and a fireworks show at night. The celebration around the courthouse square will be from 8:30 a.m.

Local advocacy groups combat elder abuse

June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. On the issue of abuse, the age group may be less considered by the public than other demographics, but every year an estimated 2.1 million older Americans are victims of physical, psychological and other forms of abuse or neglect.

City recognizes National Garden Week

National Garden Week is firmly rooted and growing in Hartwell. Each year, during the first week in June, members of the Pine Tree Garden Club encourage members to participate in projects to educate the community on how to be a better caretaker of the land.

Light replacements approved at Hart Co. Middle, High Schools

Hart County High School and Middle School are going to shine brighter after all outdoor lighting is replaced later this summer. At the June 14 Hart County Board of Education meeting, the board approved a recommendation from Georgia Power to replace all the outdoor lights at both schools.
