Superintendent reports North Hart traffic improvements

A small change at North Hart Elementary alleviated years of traffic headaches on Lavonia Highway. At the Oct. 18, Hart County Board of Education meeting, superintendent Jay Floyd said he has received positive feedback from many people on the addition of an additional car rider line at North Hart.

Gym exclusively for women opens in Hartwell

Physique Boutique, Hartwell’s first women-only gym, opened last week at 88 S Forest. The studio — which offers personal and group training, nutritional guidance and regular weight training / gym-use — was the brainchild of developer Charlene Fields.

Visitors flood downtown for Depot Day, HartOberFest

Clear skies with a cool breeze awaited visitors Saturday, Oct. 16 at the jointly-organized Depot Day and HartOberFest. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., vendors lined Depot Street with a variety of products, foods and services for a packed crowd.

Growth in Hartwell is a hot topic among candidates running for positions in the city this November. The Hartwell Sun interviewed the candidates on the ballot for mayor and Hartwell City Council to find out what issues are important to them and how they plan to tackle those issues.

On Tuesday, Oct. 19, former Hart County commissioner R.C. Oglesby stood among 10 other candidates seeking elected office in the city of Hartwell to address questions from voters. One such voter at the Hart County Library forum asked Oglesby about felony charges he currently faces.

Hartwell residents organize tribute to late beloved artist

Saturday evening at the Elberton Arts Center will be a memorial tribute to Jason Amani Tasi, belovedly known as “Tasi,” a former Elbert County native, Vanna resident and owner of Tasi Tattoo in Royston. Tasi, who would’ve turned 43 Oct. 12, passed away unexpectedly Oct.

1915: Mike and Tom Harper were brothers who lived close to each other just six miles north of Hartwell when a domestic violence dispute erupted that brought their relationship to an end. Tom was abusing his wife when his brother Mike showed up to intervene on her behalf.
