Animal shelter breaks ground on new facility

LAVONIA — By this time next year, the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter could have a new place for dogs to stay as they await adoption. The shelter board, staff and supporters broke ground Thursday afternoon for a new building.

Hart County drill teams top region

The Hart County High School JROTC Competition Drill Team competed at the Gladiator Invitational and state qualifier meet on Saturday, March 5.  The Female Color Guard won first place overall and first in region to qualify to compete in the Georgia State Drill Championships.

Fisherman relishes opportunity to marshal Bassmaster Classic

Local fisherman David McGinnis gained a competitive advantage over his peers after spending three days with professional anglers during the Bassmaster Classic on Lake Hartwell held the first weekend in March.

Lake Hartwell played host to the 2022 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic this past weekend. Jason Christie, a 48-year-old professional from Pak Hill, Okla., took the first place spot with a final-day limit of 17 pounds, 9 ounces.
