25 years ago (2000)    Aug. 9, 2000 – Crammed like sardines into the county commissioner’s meeting room, around 500 people showed up to express their displeasure with the growth of video poker outlets in Hart County.

School system, local public safety conduct emergency response drill

The Hart County Charter System conducted an emergency response drill in collaboration with local emergency services Aug. 1 at Hartwell Elementary School.    The drill demonstrated the school system’s commitment to the safety and well-being of students, staff and the entire Hart County community.

Playing on the world stage

On July 28, Team Southeast began their quest towards capturing a World Series title by taking on Team Canada in the first game of pool play.    After a scoreless first inning, Southeast loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the second.

HPD urges bus safety ahead of first day

As the Hart County Charter School bus engines start up for the 2025-2026 school year, Lt. Darin Rucker from the Hartwell Police Department and Director of Transportation Jeff Garner urge the public to help keep local youth safe while on the roads.

Gaines inducted as GAEL President

The Hart County Charter System is proud to announce that Hart County High School Principal Kevin Gaines has been officially sworn in as the newest President of the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL). The ceremony took place on July 15 at the GAEL Summer Conference on Jekyll Island.

25 years ago (2000)    Aug. 2, 2000 – The Friendship Force of Lake Hartwell welcomed 39 guests from Altotonga, Mexico last Thursday. The visitors are staying at the homes of 11 Hart County families.    A welcome party on Friday was hosted by John and Judy Gantt. Shopping in Anderson, S.C.

Man arrested after fleeing officers, abandoning juveniles

A Royston man is charged with fleeing from officers and abandoning two children in his vehicle.   He was later arrested after a report of prowling in Lavonia.   The Lavonia Police Department reported that an officer on patrol Thursday at about 3:04 p.m.
