Slow-pitch softball starts the season 2-0

The Hart County slow-pitch softball team started the season off with a bang, sweeping Gainesville in their season opener. Lady Dogs head coach Katie Jo Gentry said it is always hard for softball players to make the transition from fastpitch to slow pitch in just a matter of months.

Diamond Dogs rallies fall short

The Diamond Dogs are still in the rough after losses to both McIntosh on Feb. 24 and Banks County at home on Tuesday. Hart hosted McIntosh for a double-header. The Chiefs beat the Diamond Dogs just a few days ago in Peachtree City, 13-0.

ELITE EIGHT BOUND

The Hart County boys basketball team knocked off two Top 15 teams on the road to advance to the Elite Eight. Hart traveled up to Gilmer on Feb. 22 to take on the Bobcats in the first round of the state tournament. The Dogs came out swinging, taking a 30-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Last week The Hartwell Sun reported on the conditions and mismanagement of Nancy Hart Memorial Park, located just outside of town on Royston Highway. The Hartwell Sun found 34 graves without a plaque, and 32 of them were past the average time it takes to secure a headstone.

Campground controversy

Tempers came to a boil over discussions surrounding Paynes Creek Campground during Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting. Contentions first arose as the board members were discussing bids put in for the contract of cutting grass at Paynes Creek Park.
Early voting is underway for the Hart County Board of Education’s ESPLOST. If approved, the upcoming ESPLOST will be the sixth edition in Hart County and is expected to collect over $30 million.
