Tennis season ends after first round exit in region tournament

Both boys and girls tennis teams fell to Franklin County in the first round of the region tournament on Tuesday. Not only does that eliminate them from the remainder of the region tournament, but it also eliminates them from the state playoffs and ends the Racket Dogs season.

YMCA to host Healthy Kids Day on April 29

The Bell Family YMCA of Hartwell will host its second annual Healthy Kids Day on April 29 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. After a successful event last year,  Kurve Augustine, the Bell Family YMCA’s sports director, said he is excited for what is to come in year two of the event.

Diamond Dogs on a three-game win streak

The Hart County Diamond Dogs are on a three-game win streak after sweeping Washington-Wilkes on April 6. The Dogs also defeated Stephens County on the road on Tuesday. On April 6, the Diamond Dogs competed in their last non-region series of the year, as they hosted Washington-Wilkes.

Former Lady Dog and current Morehead State University outfielder, Taikibrea Campbell, is finding success through the struggle of being a college athlete. Just a year ago, Campbell committed to play college softball for the Eagles. Now she is a normal starter in the outfield.

Diamond Dogs split with Hebron and fall to Jefferson

The Diamond Dogs split the double-header against Hebron Christian at home and fell on the road against Jefferson. Senior pitcher Reese Maxwell got the nod to start in game one versus Hebron Christian at home on March 30.

Girls end their season on a high note while boys make the playoffs

The Hart County Soccer Dogs wrapped up the regular season sweeping Athens Christian on senior night, spliting against Elbert, and the boys beat Monsignor Donovan on the road.

Canon man sentenced for 2021 chase, fatal crash

Brandon Driver of Canon was sentenced to 26 years, 20 of which are to be served in prison, by the Hart County Superior Court on March 23 for charges related to a December 2021 police chase and eventual crash that took the life of a passenger and Maysville resident.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   March 28   Ryan Allison, 39, of Anderson, S.C., was arrested and charged with DUI and failure to drive within a single lane. Willam Angel, 17, of Carnesville was arrested and charged with interference with custody.

Pre-K, Kindergarten registration beginning week of April 24

Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration – The Hart County Charter System will hold Pre-K Registration from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday, April 24, and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the Hart County Agriscience Center, located at 1951 Bowman Highway, Hartwell.
