Splitting zoning decisions

Actions on a trio of zoning cases resulted in a mixed bag during the Hartwell City Council's meeting Monday that included three new council members.  Prior to the meeting, Kay Ankerich, Seth Baughman and Randy Clark, Jr., took oaths of office and assumed their positions on the council.

Former commissioner not guilty

Former Hart County District 4 commissioner Ricky Carter was found not guilty last week by a jury on five of the counts he was indicted for in May 2022 and acquitted by Northern Judicial Superior Court Judge Harvey S. Wasserman on the remaining three.

Linton named Lead News Reporter

Madison Linton has joined The Hartwell Sun staff as Lead News Reporter.  Linton graduated from the University of Georgia (UGA) with a bachelor's degree in journalism with a certificate in news literacy and a minor in theatre Dec. 12 and began her time at The Sun Dec. 15.

Election Tuesday

Election Day for the runoff for the remaining undecided seat to replace Dan Leard on the Hartwell City Council will be held Tuesday, Dec. 2.  Randy Clark and Stephen "Doc" Ayers will continue to vie for the seat after receiving 347 votes (46.45 percent) and 210 votes (28.

Bowers brings Christmas cheer

At just six years old, Tyler Bowers wanted to bring some festive cheer to his grandparent's yard during the Christmas season. He found two wire deer and some lights and created a display for he and his grandparents, Bill and Jan Bowers, to enjoy.

Tour of Homes to be held Dec. 13

Hartwell Service League's annual Tour of Homes is set for Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Attendees will enjoy visiting a handful of Hart County homes that have a variety of history, architecture and style.  Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Hart County Chamber of Commerce.
