The Hart County Charter System is deeply saddened to share that beloved Hartwell Elementary School (HES) teacher Madison Nicole Martin passed away May 23.

“Madison dedicated the past 11 years of her life to serving students as an exceptional educator. I am truly honored to have witnessed and been a part of her journey as she continually strived to impact the lives of every student she encountered. She was a valued member of our leadership team and led with innovation, compassion and purpose, making a difference not only at Hartwell Elementary, but throughout Hart County and the greater community,” Hartwell Elementary Principal Ashley McNeill said. “Madison was much more than a classroom teacher — she was family. She cared deeply for everyone she worked alongside and consistently demonstrated a servant’s heart in all that she did. She was a great listener, incredibly understanding and always willing to support others. Her contagious laugh and warm spirit brought joy to those around her and will forever be remembered.”

Martin’s influence extended beyond the classroom, and her legacy will continue through the many students, families and colleagues whose lives she touched throughout her career.

“Our school community is heartbroken over the unexpected passing of Ms. Madison Martin. Ms. Martin was much more than an educator — she was a friend to colleagues, a source of encouragement to those in need, a positive influence in the lives of many children and a loving mother,” Superintendent Jennifer Carter said. “We are forever grateful for the love and dedication she shared so freely. Her quiet, gentle spirit and sweet smile will never be forgotten. Please join us in praying for her family, friends and students during this time of profound loss.”

Additional counselors and support personnel were available at HES to assist students and staff who needed emotional support Tuesday.

The Hart County Charter System remains committed to supporting the well-being of our students and staff during this difficult time. We respectfully ask for privacy and compassion for the family as they grieve.
