Dove hunters to have 2 more weeks this season

Dove hunting season opens Sept. 7 and will include an extra two weeks more than in previous years to bag the birds. Dove season hunting dates are Sept. 7–30, Nov. 23–Dec. 1, and Dec. 6–Jan. 31. A complete summary of migratory bird hunting season dates and bag limits is online at www.georgiawildlife.

Dorian could make wet Labor Day week

A tropical storm swirling its way toward Southern Florida could mean more rain for Northeast Georgia on Labor Day and into next week, but isn’t likely to cause major problems, a National Weather Service meteorologist said.

Bowersville is set to have a new mayor come 2020. Pruitt Manley was the only town resident who qualified last week at the Hart County Board of Elections to run for the seat being left open by now outgoing mayor Jim Jordan. The mayoral seat is the only uncontested race in Bowersville.

Helicopter-aided chase nets arrests

Local authorities called in a helicopter last Thursday (Aug. 22) to aid the search for three potentially armed men who fled law enforcement. The search came to an end Monday when the third and final suspect surrendered — but the investigation is not done.

Firefighters battle truck ablaze

A Dodge Ram caught fire Thursday afternoon just before it entered downtown Hartwell. Hartwell firefighters were dispatched to the parking lot of the old Bells Shopping Center, 136 Athens St., at around 4:30 p.m. to a report of a four-door truck on fire.
