Deputy Dog is on duty in Hart County

There’s a new deputy in town — one with four legs and a superb sniffer. Parker Jean, a bloodhound who just turned a year old on Oct. 9, has been training with Find-M’ Friends, a nonprofit organization, since she was about eight weeks old.

Program aids needy, elderly in paying winter heating bills

A program to help elderly and low-income folks pay for their winter heating bills will get a boost from hot dogs on Oct. 11. The Hartwell Gas Department is hosting a hot dog lunch that day, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $7 each and include two hotdogs, chips, cole slaw, a cookie and a drink.

Wastewater capacity to increase at industrial park

The City of Hartwell is set to get $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce to improve its wastewater treatment plant that serves the Hart County Industrial Park, where Nestle-Purina is building a production facility.

Local 4-H'ers win forestry competition in region

Hart County Junior 4-H’ers competed in the Georgia 4-H’s Northeast District Area Forestry Field Day Competition at the Thompson Mills Forest and State Arboretum in Braselton on Sept. 17. Forestry Field Day is a competitive judging contest in which 4-H students identify trees, insects and diseases.

Venison-donation program comes to Hart County

A statewide program is coming to Hart County that will provide fresh meat to an area food charity. Hart County’s program will be the 20th in the state through Georgia Hunters for the Hungry, an initiative of the Georgia Wildlife Federation.
