25 years ago (2000)    Aug. 16, 2000 – Lavonia may be branching out in the water business. City council members agreed to supply treated water to the Hart County Water/Sewer Authority provided they get authorization from the EPD to up their water treatment capacity.

Brown named Teacher of the Year

Betsy Brown, a kindergarten teacher at Hartwell Elementary School, has been named the 2025–2026 Hart County Charter System Teacher of the Year.    The announcement was made during the district’s annual convocation July 30, in front of all district faculty and staff.

25 years ago (2000)    Aug. 9, 2000 – Crammed like sardines into the county commissioner’s meeting room, around 500 people showed up to express their displeasure with the growth of video poker outlets in Hart County.

School system, local public safety conduct emergency response drill

The Hart County Charter System conducted an emergency response drill in collaboration with local emergency services Aug. 1 at Hartwell Elementary School.    The drill demonstrated the school system’s commitment to the safety and well-being of students, staff and the entire Hart County community.
