City council contenders set

Two seats on the Hartwell City Council are set to be contested, and one will see a completely new council member, following the end of qualifying last week.    Incumbent Tray Hicks will be challenged by Kay Ankerich for his seat on the council.

      Each week, High Notes features a member of the Hart County High School Bulldog Marching Band who has made a significant impact, including a band or auxiliary member, section and officer.

25 years ago (2000)    Aug. 30, 2000 – The Hartwell city council signed a water agreement with Hart County last Thursday assuming they would receive $759,000 in water system improvements allocated in the upcoming SPLOST referendum. Wrong.

VFW Post 8076, once known as a “rotting” and “musty” beer parlor, located at 173 Ack Powell Road, now shines as the home of Hartwell’s Veterans of Foreign War (VFW).

25 years ago (2000)    Aug. 23, 2000 – Hours of meetings and 12 revisions later, Hart County has a video poker registration ordinance.    After the commissioners voted unanimously to adopt the new law, chairman Joel Moore said, “We have tweaked it, massaged it, cussed it and discussed it.
