The cost of a surface water treatment plant is being researched for the Hart County Water and Sewer Authority through the University of Georgia’s Archway Partnership.    Authority Vice Chair Patti York announced the study during the authority’s meeting Monday.

Winston Phillips is Loving Life

Flipping through a small black photo book, butcher Winston Phillips, 78, reminisces on his earlier days of cutting meat. After nearly six decades of his career as a butcher, Phillips comes into work each day with a smile on his face and a passion for serving excellent cut steaks to his community.

Army veteran finds new uniform at HPD, HCMS

Sgt. 1st Class Christy Worthy, 47, spent nearly 20 years in the United States Army, serving primarily as an air traffic controller, before hanging up her gear five years ago to dedicate her life to protecting her local community.

25 years ago (2000)    Sept. 27, 2000 – If the voters say yes on Nov. 7, construction will begin on a new recreational complex.    Land for the 55-acre park was purchased by the county with the 1995 SPLOST proceeds and a grant.

DDA working to help fill vacant properties

Edwards inducted into Hall of Fame

Hart County girls basketball head coach Mike Edwards has been cemented into the Valwood High School Hall of Fame.    Edwards’ alma mater, Valwood High School out of Valdosta, inducted its fourth class into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame Sept. 11-12.

The City of Hartwell’s proposed general fund budget is expected to surpass $8 million in 2026, with transfers from utility departments outweighing property taxes as a revenue stream for another year, and cost-of-living increases being the largest increase in expenditures.
