Hartwell’s Hogan named CEO of Northeast Georgia Bank

LAVONIA – Northeast Georgia Bank has announced promotions to three senior leadership positions. Bill Hogan has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer, Lee Vaughn to President and Rick Tatum as Senior Credit Officer.

Hart County takes the plunge

On March 2, the Hart County community gathered at the Gum Branch Mega ramp on the shores of Lake Hartwell for the 28 annual Polar Plunge. All tolled, 21 brave souls tested the cold waters of the lake to help raise money for a wonderful cause: the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence.

Nancy Hart Memorial Park issued penalties

In December, The Sun reported on the State of Georgia continuing to consider placing Nancy Hart Memorial Park (NHMP) in its receivership. Since then, the Secretary of State’s Board of Cemeterians has steadily continued their investigation and new details have emerged.

Council discusses annexation parcel

Hartwell City Council met March 4 for a succinct meeting, with all members present but Councilman Dan Leard. Prominent topics included the annexation parcel recently discussed at both city council and Board of Commissioners (BOC) meetings, and “urban camping.

Racket Dogs pick up first win of the season

The Racket Dogs captured their first win of the season over Barrow Arts & Science. Hart competed in their first non-region match of the season as they hosted Barrow Arts & Science on Feb. 23.

Diamond Dogs on three game skid

After starting the season 3-0, the Diamond Dogs have hit a bump in the road as they have dropped three straight. Hart began their south Georgia tour with a trip to Bleckley County on Feb. 21.

Lady Dogs drop back-to-back games after starting 4-0

After starting the season undefeated, the Lady Dogs dropped back-to-back games. Hart traveled to Lexington to take on the Lady Patriots of Oglethorpe County on Feb. 23. The Lady Dogs got off to a good start after opening up the game with a goal from junior midfielder Teague Pierce.

Dogs even their record with a win over Towns County

After falling to Oglethorpe County on the road, the Dogs responded with a shutout win against Towns County at home. Hart traveled to Lexington to take on the Patriots of Oglethorpe County on Feb. 23. The Dogs got out to an early lead as sophomore midfielder Will Bell netted home the opening goal.

Lady Dogs eliminated in Elite Eight

The Lady Dogs season ends with a loss on the road in the Elite Eight. With Dawson County upsetting Adairsville in the first round of the state playoffs, it set up the first round playoff rematch from a year ago as Hart hosted the Lady Tigers of Dawson County on Feb. 23.

Dogs slam their way into the Elite Eight for second straight year

From a blowout win to a nail biting win, the Dogs are advancing to the Elite Eight for the second straight year. Hart hosted the Panthers of Carver [Atlanta] on Feb. 21. The Dogs got off to their best start of the season as they led at the end of the first quarter, 22-6.
