Track Dogs bring home region championship

A Region 8-AAA championship track and field trophy is coming home to Hartwell. The Hart County High School boys’ track and field team claimed the region championship on Wednesday, April 28 in Monroe, while the girls’ squad captured the title of region runners-up with a second-place team finish.

43rd Annual Dam Run returns after year off

The Lake Hartwell Dam Run 5K and 10K, one of Hartwell’s oldest traditions, was put on hold last year due to the coronavirus. The 42nd annual event, finally held this past Saturday, featured over 300 runners. The turnout was lower than a normal year but still a welcome sight to organizers and locals.

Bulldogs drop Oconee series, face Redan in playoffs

Despite consistently being ranked as the No. 1-ranked team in Class AAA throughout the season, the Hart County Diamond Dogs finished the regular season in third place in Region 8-AAA, setting up a double-header playoff game on the road Thursday.

Racket Dogs fall in Sweet 16, earn region honors

While the postseason has drawn to an end for the Hart County High School Racket Dogs, the team is still bringing in accolades. The Hart County boys tennis team fell short 2-3 in the Sweet 16 round of the Class AAA state playoffs last week against Coahulla Creek.

Girls’ golf squad takes 2nd place in Area 4-AAA

The Hart County High School girls’ golf team claimed an area runners-up trophy on Monday, and are now turning their eyes to the state tournament. The Lady Dogs swung into second place at the Area 4-AAA tournament, which combines Region 6 and Region 8, on Monday, April 28 at the Monroe Country Club.

Lady Dogs claim state title, finish season unbeaten

State championship rings will soon be on the fingers of the Hart County High School Lady Dog slow-pitch softball players. For the first time since 1994, a team state championship trophy is coming to Hartwell after the Lady Dogs captured the title on Thursday, April 22 in Woodstock.

Boys track takes 2nd at North Oconee, girls take 4th

The Hart County High School boys track team added another trophy to its collection on Friday. The Track Dogs earned second place as a team out of 14 schools at the North Oconee Titan invitational in Bogart on Friday, April 16 to take runners-up at the meet.

Soccer ends season on high note

The playoffs may not have panned out for the both the boys and girls Hart County High School soccer teams, but the seasons still ended on high notes for both squads. The Bulldogs blasted Lincoln County 8-1 on Friday, April 16 at home for the team’s senior night.

Twisters showcase routine for local audience

Lots of flying, flipping, twisting and tumbling occupied the Bell Family YMCA gymnasium over the weekend. The Hartwell Twisters, a local youth gymnastics team, hosted a spring performance to showcase their skills due to limited attendance at their meets this year.
