Summer break wraps up with Lil’ Dogs Camp

Kids gathered at Herndon Stadium to learn football fundamentals from Hart County coaches and players at the Lil’ Dawgs Camp on July 24. Approximately 100 kids participated in the free camp. The camp was open to kids from 6 to 12 years old and ran from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. that Saturday morning.

Dogs in training: Practice starts at Hart County

The Hart County High School football team began their first official practices for the 2021 season on Monday, July 26. The Bulldogs went through a variety of drills and conditioning work without pads on their first day of the two-week preseason camp.

Hartwell fighter Cee Jay Hamilton lost his Bellator main card fight against Matheus Mattos on Friday, July 16. Hamilton lost via TKO with 1:33 left in the second round at the at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Hart YMCA swimmer places at state

Cara Cook, 11, swam against athletes from across the state, many who swim year-round, at a state competition at the Cumming Aquatics Center on July 17. Cook was a member of a relay team that won fifth overall in the 200m medley relay and 200m freestyle relay.

Sibling Track Dogs to compete at national meet

Track siblings Valasha and Johnny Carter both brought home medals at the AAU Region 8 Qualifier Meet on  June 24 through 27. The two competed in multiple events at the meet in Hampton against athletes from Georgia and South Carolina.

Hart County golfer named to All-State team

Hart County golfer Lauren Weaver was selected to the Georgia High School Golf Coaches Association All State Team. Weaver was one of eight golfers from each classification selected by the Executive Committee of the Georgia High School Golf Coaches Association.

Softball battle at state tourney

Two little league softball teams competed in the state tournament in Watkinsville this past weekend. The 8-10 softball team lost 10-0 to Harris County little league on Sunday, July 11 on their first game of the tournament.

Hartwell fighter on Bellator main card

Hartwell-based fighter Cee Jay Hamilton will be fighting in his first main-card event with Bellator MMA, on Friday night. Hamilton will be fighting in the bantamweight bout of Bellator 262 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut on July 16 at 9 p.m.

Hart Junior League named District 7 champs

The Hart County Junior League baseball team was named the District 7 championship on Monday, July 12 after beating Toccoa 6-1. The tournament came down to a three-game series against the Toccoa junior league team. Hart County took game one  5-0 on Saturday, July 10.

CMA athletes win medals

Two adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students from Chuck Cawthon’s Contemporary Martial Arts competed at the Newbreed South Carolina State Championship tournament held on Saturday, June 26th in Spartanburg, SC at the Upward Star Center.
