Hart Junior League named District 7 champs

The Hart County Junior League baseball team was named the District 7 championship on Monday, July 12 after beating Toccoa 6-1. The tournament came down to a three-game series against the Toccoa junior league team. Hart County took game one  5-0 on Saturday, July 10.

CMA athletes win medals

Two adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students from Chuck Cawthon’s Contemporary Martial Arts competed at the Newbreed South Carolina State Championship tournament held on Saturday, June 26th in Spartanburg, SC at the Upward Star Center.

All-star tourneys continue

While some Hart County all-star teams end their season after losses, others progress to state championships. The Hart County 9-11 baseball team lost their second game of the tournament 6-4 on Wednesday, June 30, against Toccoa who advances to the state tournament in Dudley on July 17.

Hart basketball player ranked highly by ESPN

Hart County rising-junior Tahj Johnson was recently named a four-star basketball recruit by ESPN’s recruiting services. Along with the four-star status, ESPN rated the 6’7” power forward as the fourth best player in the state and the 18th best power forward in the country for the class of 2023.

Hartwell swimmers to compete at state meet

The Hartwell Barracudas Swim Team is making a splash this season by sending two swimmers to a state competition. The swim team of the Bell Family YMCA in Hartwell has competed in swim meets this summer after swim competitions were put on hold last year due to COVID.

All-star baseball teams play in Hart

The 8-10 Hart County All-Star Baseball team lost a heartbreaker on Tuesday, June 29 at the Hart County Recreation Department. The little-league team lost to Toccoa 7-6 after a walk-off run in the sixth inning to end their season.

DOGS COMPETE AT 7-ON-7 CAMP

The Hart County High School Football team’s passing game shined at the 7-on-7 camp in Cleveland on June 25. The varsity team finished the day 7-2 and took home second place in the tournament.

Local gymnasts win national championship

Several Hartwell gymnast  came home national campions after competing at a national competition in Savannah this past week. Eight Hartwell Twisters represented Hartwell at the AAU National Championship from June 23 to 27.

HARTWELL TWISTER SPOTLIGHT

Maci Dudley joined the Hartwell Twisters in 2016. Her favorite event is floor because she gets to dance and tumble. Her favorite skill is round off back-handspring back-tuck. Maci hopes to one day become a coach to help others learn the skills she has learned.

Siblings on road to junior Olympics

Valasha (left) and Johnny  Carter (right) both competed in the AAU Georgia District Qualifier track and field meet at Hampton High School on June 10-13. Valasha Carter won GA District triple-jump gold at 37-01 feet and 9th place in long jump at 15-05 feet.
