Hart softball state bound: Hart beats Franklin to win District 7 tournament

The Hart County Little League 8-to-10-year-old All-Star softball team was crowned District 7 Champion after beating Franklin County twice this past weekend. Hart played Franklin in a best of three series to determine the District 7 representative in the state tournament.

Kids kick it at soccer camp: YMCA begins summer camps with soccer

The Bell Family YMCA held a soccer camp this week for young players to sharpen their skills. The camp was the first of five camps offered this summer for kids under the age of 14. Due to the extreme heat, the camp was moved indoors this week into the gym.

High School hosts basketball camp

Hart County High School hosted it’s annual basketball summer camp last week. The camp was from May 30 to June 2 and included ages ranging Pre-K age to soon to be 8th graders. Coach Mike Edwards said there were 137 students in attendance this year.

Twisters show out at regional meet

The Hartwell Twisters Gymnastics Team competed in the Southern Regional AAU Gymnastics Championships in Daytona, Florida on May 21 and 22. There was a lot of competition at the regional, but the girls showed up and did great.

Hart Co. Little League teams face out-of-county competition

The Hart County Recreation Department hosted teams from Rabun County, Toccoa and Fair Oaks, along with two teams from Hart County, in the Little League Rookie Softball division. On April 30, Hart County’s “Pride” finished the competition as champions after winning all three of their games.

High School, YMCA offer sports camps for kids

Between sports camps at the high school and the local YMCA, young athletes can stay busy all summer long. The first camp was the basketball camp at Hart County High School from May 30 to June 2.

Diamond dogs receive All-Region honors

Five Hart County High School baseball players were named to the all-region first team for Region 8AAA. Seniors Peyton Powell and Tanner Ayers were named first team at pitcher. Powell secured five wins for the Diamond Dogs and recorded 73 strikeouts in 53.1 innings.

Hart football battle Habersham in spring scrimmage

The Hart County High School football team traveled to Habersham Central for a friendly competition against the 6A Raiders to end spring training. The game between the two teams May 20 was structured differently from a normal game.
