Dogs playoff hopes rely on win over Monroe Area

Hart prepares for a win or go home situation against the Purple Hurricanes of Monroe Area on Nov. 3. When you look at the history between the two schools, Hart owns the series between the two schools. From 1934 to 2007, the Dogs and Purple Hurricanes have seen each other a total of 36 times.

Dogs offensive woes carry over into Hebron Christian loss

Hart County’s offense was held scoreless for the second week in a row, as Hebron Christian defeated the Dogs at home, 27-0. The Dogs hosted the Lions for the first time ever in Herndon Stadium. Hart won the toss and deferred to the second half.

The back-to-back state champion commits to Alabama

Hart County’s back-to-back girls state champion in pole vault Amelia Johnson announces her commitment to continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Alabama. Johnson was midway through her junior season when the Crimson Tide first began to show interest.

Volley Dogs historic run ends in Final Four

After sweeping Columbus in the Elite Eight, the Volley Dogs fell to the Lady Warriors of Oconee County in four sets to end their historic season.

The Comeback: featuring Madison McLane

A senior three sport athlete at Hart County High School has fought the road to recovery, and is set to play a big role for her final seasons in basketball and track. Madison McLane was a crucial part of the Lady Dogs basketball team that ended the season as a region runner-up last year.

Hart County looks to rebound against Hebron Christian, after being held scoreless in their first region loss to Stephens County. When you talk about historic match ups in Hart County history, this is not one that will be brought up.

Dogs shutout by Indians in first region loss

Offensive woes lead to the 35-0 shutout loss against Stephens County. The Dogs hosted the Indians of Stephens County for a battle of the unbeatens in region play. Stephens County won the toss and elected to defer to the second half. Hart County started things off on offense.

I cannot believe it has already been a full year since I took over as the sports writer for The Hartwell Sun. But it almost didn’t happen. A little over a year ago, me and The Hartwell Sun’s Dawson Baker worked together during that time for another business in Hartwell.

Cross Country teams advance to state

The Hart County High School boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Region 8-AAA meet in Bogart Oct. 21. The boys placed third in the region while the girls placed fourth, as both teams secured spots in the State Championship meet.
