Payne wins second consecutive state title

Eight-year-old Hartwell native, Knox Payne, captures back-to-back state championships at the Georgia Wrestling State Championship in Perry, Ga. on March 3.

Racket Dogs fall in back-to-back region matches

After capturing their first wins of the season, the Racket Dogs fall just short of capturing wins against Monroe Area and Stephens County. Hart hosted the Purple Hurricanes of Monroe Area on Feb. 29. For the boys, after winning at No. 3 singles, things didn’t go their way and fell, 4-1.
Senior pitcher Brent Franklin tossed five innings allowing one hit, three runs, one earned run, seven walks, struck out five, and picked up his first win of the season on the bump for the Dogs in the 7-3 win over the Banks County.

Warriors serve Diamond Dogs first loss in region play

After getting back to their winning ways with a win over Banks County, Oconee County hands the Diamond Dogs their first region loss of the season. Hart picked up a game against Banks County, and hosted the Leopards on Feb. 29 from Saye Field.

Softball under new leadership

Hart County High School softball assistant coach Gerald Gates has been promoted to be the head coach of the program. In a team meeting in January, former head coach Katie Jo Gentry announced that she would not be returning to the program, and that Gates would replace her as head coach.

Racket Dogs pick up first win of the season

The Racket Dogs captured their first win of the season over Barrow Arts & Science. Hart competed in their first non-region match of the season as they hosted Barrow Arts & Science on Feb. 23.

Diamond Dogs on three game skid

After starting the season 3-0, the Diamond Dogs have hit a bump in the road as they have dropped three straight. Hart began their south Georgia tour with a trip to Bleckley County on Feb. 21.

Lady Dogs drop back-to-back games after starting 4-0

After starting the season undefeated, the Lady Dogs dropped back-to-back games. Hart traveled to Lexington to take on the Lady Patriots of Oglethorpe County on Feb. 23. The Lady Dogs got off to a good start after opening up the game with a goal from junior midfielder Teague Pierce.

Dogs even their record with a win over Towns County

After falling to Oglethorpe County on the road, the Dogs responded with a shutout win against Towns County at home. Hart traveled to Lexington to take on the Patriots of Oglethorpe County on Feb. 23. The Dogs got out to an early lead as sophomore midfielder Will Bell netted home the opening goal.

Lady Dogs eliminated in Elite Eight

The Lady Dogs season ends with a loss on the road in the Elite Eight. With Dawson County upsetting Adairsville in the first round of the state playoffs, it set up the first round playoff rematch from a year ago as Hart hosted the Lady Tigers of Dawson County on Feb. 23.
