Georgia students are making steady progress towards pre-pandemic levels, according to state testing results.

Georgia Milestones test scores show student progress

Georgia students have yet to fully recover from the disruptions of the pandemic, but they’re making steady progress, according to the latest results from the Georgia Milestones tests. This year’s results, released Friday, showed increases on 13 of 21 end-of-course assessments.

Northeast Georgia Ag Expo returning to Agriscience Center Aug. 19

The Northeast Georgia Ag Expo returns this year to the Hart County Charter System Agriscience Center from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, August 19. There will be indoor and outdoor ag exhibits, a speaker panel, free activities for kids, food, raffle prizes, and an Antique Tractor Show.

Archway partnership celebrates 15 years

Since 2008, Hart County has partnered with the University of Georgia (UGA) to identify and address the critical needs of the community through the Archway Partnership program.

Council approves changes to zoning

The Hartwell City Council voted to approve several changes to the zoning ordinances on Monday that increases and reduces lot size, density and setback requirements and creates two new zoning districts.    The changes were approved following a second reading by the council.

Parameters approved for duplex ordinance

Following a lengthy and heated discussion during Monday night’s meeting, the Hart County Board of Commissioners (BOC) voted 3-1 to approve parameters for a “grandfathering stipulation” for an ordinance that will allow the construction of duplexes in Hart County.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   July 24   John Barton, 30,  of Dewy Rose was arrested and charged with failure to appear. Leah Brown, 26, of Royston was arrested and charged with a probation warrant.

The Hart County Charter System successfully completed an Active Shooter Simulation Drill in collaboration with local emergency services.

Friday fundraising to help ‘open doors’ to Art Center

A barbecue fundraising event to raise funds needed to reopen the Hartwell Art Center will be held this weekend, Friday, Aug. 4, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the patio at Common Ground in Hartwell. The event will include a musical performance by the 70’s band, Chicky and The Hat.
