The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   June 27   Dwishawndrick Brewer, 28, of Hartwell was arrested and charged with probation violation - false name, suspended license, and obstruction to officers.

Limited Georgia Medicaid expansion now available

Georgia Republicans have sought to go their own way in expanding Medicaid coverage for more than a decade since a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) passed by a Democratic Congress gave states that right. Now, the “Georgia-centric” version of Medicaid expansion is available.

New state laws took effect Saturday, July 1

Controversial legislation imposing mandatory minimum prison terms for gang recruitment in Georgia took effect July 1. Senate Bill 44 is one of dozens of bills the General Assembly passed this year that became law with the start of a new fiscal year.

Sheriff Mike Cleveland – an institution and all around beloved member of the community that keeps Hart County ticking. Cleveland began his time in law enforcement as a Hart County deputy in 1993, and has been at the helm of the Hart County Sheriff’s Office for the last 23 years.
Connectivity is the name of the game, and a new proposed pedestrian bridge would link Hartwell Lakeside Park to Hartwell Marina. The bridge is part of a proposed regional trail system, through a partnership with Hart Archway Partnership that would connect Downtown Hartwell with Lake Hartwell.

The City of Hartwell may soon be more connected than ever before, as city officials and researchers are proposing the development of a regional trail system that would connect Downtown Hartwell with numerous recreational amenities around Lake Hartwell.

Rough waters leads to lower numbers for the Hartwell Bass Club

The Hartwell Bass Club competed on Lake Russell on Saturday, June 10 and fought against the rough waters. Johnny Adams placed first with 7.92 pounds. Adams and Curtis Brown was the first place boat with 10.70 pounds. Robert Hendrix placed second with 6.50 pounds, Brian Pitts placed third with 6.
