Ninth District Opportunity awarded federal funds

Under the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), Hart County was chosen to receive funding to assist many humanitarian aid food and shelter programs throughout the county. One of the selected programs was the Ninth District Opportunity, Inc., which assists low-income families.

Gavin Cheek has been named to take over the local Edward Jones office located at 37 E Franklin St. in Hartwell, the firm announced  recently. Cheek transferred to Hartwell from an Edward Jones office in Lavonia. Gavin Cheek has 6 years of experience as an Edward Jones financial advisor.

Polar Bear Plunge returns for the 28th consecutive year

A Lake Hartwell tradition has announced its intentions to return for the 28th straight year. The annual polar plunge and winter festival will be held Saturday, March 2 from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Gum Branch Mega Ramp  just outside of town.

Hartwell man arrested after family violence incident

On Monday, Jan. 29, 26-year-old William Lamont Scruggs of Hartwell was arrested and charged with terroristic threats and acts, criminal damage to property, and obstruction. At approximately 10:03 a.m., Hart County Sheriff’s Office responded to a family violence incident.

On the evening of Feb. 17, Hart County High School (HCHS) senior Macy Robinson will represent Hart County at the highly-esteemed All-State Chorus performances at the Classic Center in Athens.

On Jan. 25, the community gathered in the ballroom at Cateechee for the Cateechee Vision Night. Many gathered to hear from the new owners, Tyler Cox and Justin Rogers. During the event, they talked about their plans for the future of Cateechee, including a ranch feel to what they have today.

Like every other person, Larry Hill’s life has been marked by both happiness and tragedy. However, Hill’s zeal for life and all it has to offer is even more remarkable considering what exactly he had to overcome. Larry Hill was born at home in 1948 in the Shoal Creek area of Hart County.
