Pine Tree Garden Club awarded at annual state convention

Over 250 members attended the 94th Annual Garden Club of Georgia, state convention April 12-13 in Macon. Hartwell’s Pine Tree Garden Club had 11 members attending the “Gardening in Macon” convention.  Presiding over this year’s convention was GCG State President, Peggy Tucker of Hartwell.

Student works on Titanic project over break

Hart County students across the district were on spring break last week and had to find ways to pass the time. Hart County Middle Schooler Jackson Ford did so by giving the infamous Titanic a redemption story.

1933: At the store of J.F. Stalnaker, robbers ran into the store with guns and demanded all of Stalknaker’s money, taking his watch and ring. The robbers then tied up Stalnaker with wire and gagged him, then proceeded to relieve the store of several items before making off into parts unknown.

Piatigorsky wows audience

The Friends of the Hart County Library hosted another installment of the Piatigorsky Foundation concert series at the Hartwell First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 19. Concert goers were enthralled by the works of Igor Begelman, clarinet, and George Lopez, piano.

Hart celebrates Easter

Churches and families across the county celebrated the Christian holiday of Easter on Sunday, April 17. While some Easter egg hunts were postponed due to weather, church goers flocked to their places of worship in droves.

District 4 candidate: ‘time for a change’

Last month, local farmer and businessman Jeff Brown qualified as a candidate for the Hart County Board of Commissioners District 4 seat. Brown is set to face off against incumbent Ricky Carter in the Republican primary election held May 24.
