Local students named to collegiate honor rolls

Presbyterian College proudly salutes the success of its students by recognizing outstanding academic achievement. Aliza Hart of Hartwell is one of those students after being named to PC’s Dean’s List for the Fall 2024 semester. Students who make the Dean’s List earn at least a 3.5 to 3.

GeorgiaForward recently selected Amanda Brown as one of the 49 promising professionals to serve the organization’s 2025 Young Gamechangers (YG) program. YG is a unique leadership action program hosted by GeorgiaForward, a non-profit organization administrated by the Georgia Municipal Association.

Trio of local events taking place Saturday, Feb. 8

A trio of local events are slated to take place Saturday, Feb. 8. The Hart County Humane Society will hold its monthly “Second Saturday” event Saturday, Feb. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the J. Robert Mauldin Animal Sanctuary located at 1364 Reed Creek Highway.

Agnew honored for 32 years of service

Sgt. Paul Agnew has retired from the Hartwell Police Department after 32 years of service. The Hartwell City Council honored Agnew during its Feb. 3 meeting. “I’ve only known Paul as a City of Hartwell police officer all these years,” Mayor Brandon Johnson said. “He was always the D.A.R.E.
The new multipurpose athletic facility at Veterans Stadium (above) features a coaches office that faces the track/field, storage/equipment room for the track and middle school football team, a fully functioning concession stand, a hydration station and two locker rooms with bathrooms, a hydration station, lockers and benches in each room. Both locker rooms can hold up to 160 athletes.

For over 50 years, Jim’s Grill opened its doors to welcome and serve customers in Hart County. While the restaurant changed locations around four times over its long history, it was most famous for its location nestled at the corner of Forest Avenue and Depot Street.

Harmony House to hold annual chili cook-off Feb. 8

The annual Harmony House Child Advocacy Center chili cook-off will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Elberton Civic Center. This fundraising event will benefit victims of Child Physical and Sexual Abuse as well as Adult Sexual Assault and the support services provided for them.
