Humane Society needs volunteers, donations

The Hart County Humane Society needs volunteers. Volunteer work ranges from walking dogs, cleaning animal areas, giving medicine or just socializing with foster animals. The Hart County Humane Society needs advocates for its foster animals as well, society officials say.

Local ministry feeds needy in Northeast Georgia

Love Him Love Them Ministry has heeded the call to arms against world hunger once again. Love Him Love Them Ministry is based in Lavonia. While serving people in need around Northeast Georgia, the missions group also serves people overseas in Haiti and the Ukraine.

Glow Up Tanning opens on Depot

People in Hartwell striving for a bronze glow now will have a new tanning salon to keep up their tan year round. Jessica Fortson decided to open Glow Up Tanning Salon after she saw the need for more tanning options in Hartwell. “It was a service that wasn’t offered.”  Fortson said.

Local business leader noted for acumen

Betty Barton Barker will be remembered as a local business pioneer who helped focus a Hartwell institution on community and who always took time to show love to her family. Barker, 84, a former co-owner of Hart Telephone Company, died Nov. 19.
