Hartwell a finalist to hold Santa-themed fishing event

The City of Hartwell was notified this week that it has been selected as a top 5 finalist for a contest hosted by Berkley Fishing called “What does Santa do after Christmas?” If selected, Hartwell would host an initiative called “He goes fishing,” which answers the initial question.

Hartwell man killed in single-car crash

A single vehicle fatality on Highway 368 (Anderson Highway) near Harmony Road in Elbert County claimed the life of a Hartwell man Tuesday afternoon. Jace Matthew Moorhead, 23, of Liberty Hill Church Road, was pronounced deceased on the scene by Elbert County Coroner Chuck Almond. Just before 4 p.

Businesses lobby for loosening of alcohol restrictions

Several businesses in Hartwell want less restrictions on alcohol and expressed their wishes at the Hartwell City council meeting. Scott Barfield, owner of Southern Hart Brewing Company, spoke in favor of Hartwell implementing the “mimosa law”, or Georgia Senate Bill 17, at the meeting on Dec. 6.

Lady Dogs fall to Devils

The Hart County High School girls hoops team came up short against Elbert County on Friday, Dec. 3. The Lady Dogs got behind early when the Devils scored seven unanswered points. Hart responded with six unanswered points of their own and ended the first period tied at nine each.

The Hart County High School boys basketball team easily handled the Elbert County team at home on Friday, Dec. 3. Hart started with 12 unanswered points against the Devils and finished the first quarter leading 24-3.
