Soccer teams undefeated this week

Both Hart County soccer teams followed up a win last week with a tie on Tuesday. The boys team hosted the Rabun County Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 18, and won, 3-0. Kyle Hubbard, Jeremiah Jones and KJ Wharton each recorded goals with Axsel Fajardo contributing an assist.

Tennis teams lose to Elbert

The Hart County Tennis teams both lost, 3-2, to Elbert County on Feb. 17. For the boys, No. 1 singles player Daniel Leard won with match decidedly in two sets, 6-0 in both. The No. 2 doubles team, Duncan McDuffie and Ayden Mercer, also won their match in the same manner.

Lady Dogs fall to fourth after two losses in tournament

After losing both games in the region tournament, the Hart County girls basketball team will have to find success on the road in the state playoffs. The Lady Dogs’ second place finish in region put them against Oconee County in the semifinals on Feb. 16.

Rotary awards wife of late community leader

Last week, the Rotary Club of Hartwell awarded Hartwell resident Barbara Edmunds a Paul Harris Fellow +1 pin, one of the highest honors the club can bestow. Edmunds is the wife of Jack Edmunds, a five-decade champion of volunteer and philanthropic work in Hart County who died in August.

1985: Melvin Adamson from Alabama fell 70 feet at the city water tower while it was in the process of being completed on Pecan Drive. After the fall, Adamson was listed in critical condition after suffering a broken back and other injuries.

Legislative wrap up: week 5

Last week was full with debate in the House Chamber and in our committees.  We passed House Bill 910 to amend the FY 2022 budget ending June 30, 2022. The AFY 2022 budget is set at $29.8 billion, allowing the state $2.6 billion in new funds to utilize prior to fiscal year end.
