The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   Sept. 27 •Gregory Eaves, 31, of Hartwell, was arrested and charged with interference with government property (broke door window), possession and use of drug related objects and possession of methamphetamine.

REACH program highlights the best of our community

Six soon-to-be high schoolers signed contracts last week to become the newest class of REACH Hart scholars. We were proud to be able to share their achievements with our community and explain a little about Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen (REACH), which has a positive impact on so many.

Hart County 4-H’ers win first place

Staff reports   Seven middle and elementary school 4-H’ers from Hart County participated in the Northeast District 4-H Forestry Field Day competition at Wahsega 4-H Center in Dahlonega, Georgia on September 7.

Man loses arm in workplace incident

A man working at Fenner Dunlop Americas Inc. lost his arm while on the job Monday, Hart County EMS director Terrell Partain confirmed. “He got his arm caught in some kind of machinery,” Partain said.

The fire, of which the cause is still under investigation, largely left the popular Reed Creek area restaurant in ruins. The fire occurred after-hours and none were injured.

WillaDean’s Tavern burns down: Fire under investigation

The locally popular barbecue and southern restaurant WillaDean’s Tavern burned down between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Hartwell Fire Chief Alan Daniel said dispatch received a call reporting the fire at 5:17 a.m., with his unit responding from there.

Tips on cat adoption

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says approximately 1.3 million cats are adopted from animal shelters each year. However, of the cats entering shelters, only around 37 percent are ultimately adopted, according to the National Kitten Coalition.

School resource officers ‘there to protect everyone’

Children are among any nation’s most vulnerable population and need protecting. Hart County and Hartwell recognize that safety is a priority for children and provide it through school resource officers, who guard their schools like a castle under siege, ready to protect it from any invader.
