How not to adopt profane and vulgar language

I guess this comes under the heading of ‘you probably can but shouldn’t teach old dogs new tricks’, because I just found out that I have a tendency to adopt other people’s speech patterns. I see them in characters I watch on certain streaming channels or movies.

Several days ago, someone told our grandson Alex that Lynchburg, Virginia, would get a foot of snow overnight. Lynchburg is his temporary residence as he studies to beçome a counselor. “No way are we getting a foot of snow,” Alex thought to himself.

If you asked me to count my one-on-one memories of both grandfathers, I wouldn’t need all my fingers. Starting with the firstborn, I was determined to change that with our eight grandchildren. Wyatt Wilson and I drove to New Orleans for the 2020 Sugar Bowl to see Georgia beat Baylor, 26-14.

While a forecast of snow brings excitement here in the south, the irregularity of the occurrence leaves our area of the country ill-equipped to handle the affects of the often-accompanying ice accumulation. As many jokingly say, we “shut down” around here  in precaution for the phenomenon.

Local students named to Dean’s, President’s lists

Mercer University recently announced the President’s List and Dean’s List for the fall 2024 semester. Inclusion on these lists requires students to meet rigorous GPA standards specific to the college or school within the University.
As an integral component of Friday Backpack, operated by Hart Partners, community volunteers gather each week at agency’s downtown office to fill bags with shelf-stable food to be delivered to North Hart, South Hart and Hartwell elementary school students who are referred to the program. Filling the bags are, from left: Greg Blatt, Hubble Kay, Lori Blatt and John Mead.
